Top Trends at Milan Fashion Week 2024
This past week in Milan was a fashion marathon dominated by new designers taking on the helms of long-standing and iconic fashion houses. We had Matteo Tamburini's first collection at Tod's, and Adrian Appiolaza's debut at Moschino. De Sarno is still getting warmed up at Gucci, and Matthieu Blazy is proving he's a force to be reckoned with at Bottega. Here are some standout trends that dominated the runways:
Bold Prints and Patterns
Vibrant prints and bold patterns made a statement on the Milan runways. From abstract geometrics to whimsical florals, designers embraced eye-catching motifs that added excitement and energy to their collections. Bold stripes, animal prints, and psychedelic designs were particularly prevalent.
Dark Khaki
Khaki and dark olive tones dominated the runways this season in Milan. Save for pops of scarlet leather, the colour palette was overwhelmingly dark and utilitarian for Fall-Winter 2024. Tod’s, Max Mara and Ferragamo demonstrated this beautifully.
Leather Everything
I’m still reeling from the crimson red patent leather trench seen at Jil Sander… . Leather took center stage in Milan, with designers showcasing an array of luxurious leather garments and accessories. From sleek leather jackets to tailored trousers and statement-making dresses, leather was reimagined in various forms, textures, and colours, adding a touch of sophistication to runway looks.
Footwear With A Twist
From sky high platforms at Gucci, exaggerated fringed loafers at Tod's to floral printed flats at Giorgio Armani, footwear was a focal point for many designers. The shoe of the season is embellished and it's loud.
